STAFF LUXURIES
“EATING UP PROFITS." High living on the part of the waitresses and the staff at the refreshment kiosk on Bournemouth 1 (England) pier is said to account for the low profit on the year’s trading. At the annual borough audit the assistant district auditor pointed out that the profits from the beach cafes were more than those from the pier kiosk i He had found that salmon, duck, chicken, lobster, and similar luxuries were provided, while the number of 'luncheons served from them was practically nil. | “These things must go somewhere or other,” he added. “The staff must eat them." | Each member of the staff received a cup of coffee and a cake at 11 a.m., a good meal at mid-day, high tea at 5 p.m. and some refreshment before they left at night. j “In other words,” the auditor remarked, “the staff eat up the profits.” j The town clerk said that the pier kiosk was more affected by bad i weather than the beach cafes, and the i chairman of the finance committee mentioned that the cafes did a bigger business.
