ARREST IN HYDE PARK. EX-DIRECTOR OF INTELLIGENCE LONDON .December 16. Sir Basil Thomson, formerly Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and afterwards Director of Intelligence was arrested in Hyde Park for an alleged offence in which a woman is also said to have been concerned. The woman was arrested as well. Neither Sir Basil Thomson nor the woman, Thelma Delava, answered to their bail at tho Marlborough street Police Court. The magistrate therefore issued summonses. The newspapers describe Sir Basil as the anti-spy chief and say he foiled many German secret service men in war time. They recall that he presided at many stern cross-examina-tions which resulted In the execution of spies. The most dramatic was his interview with Sir Roger Casement who Anally said; “I suppose you are going to shoot me.” Sir Basil replied: "I cannot promise that.”
