ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE PREFERRED

Last niglu tno Hamilton police received a telephone message from Ngaruawahia that a young woman named Muriel TetzlafC, aged nineteen, was lying in a critical condition in a house of the township. , From subsequent information, De-tective-Sergeant Weeney and Detective P. Culloty paid a visit to a board-ing-house. where they interviewed Hoy 'Charles Dorn, aged nineteen. As a result Of the interview, Pprn was taken to Ngaruawahia, Where at H ■o’clock last night the Court opened, and Dorn in the presence of two justices, was charged with attempting to murder the girl. Accused’s and the girl’s depositions were taken by the Registrar of the Court at Hamilton at the house where she lay. * ■ In her statement, a very lengthy one, th e sick girl said she and Dorn had been keeping company for the past two years and in consequence of being in a certain condition, she had visited him at Hamilton on Wednesday night, when there had been a long conversation relative to her condition. Plans for her future were arranged and they were to have been married to-morrow, but owing to something he said, she gathered he did not love her. He asked her to call the following evening. This she did, when he gave her a small bottle of ammonia, some small, thin sticks of some substance to take with the liquid and then shook hands with her for what she was going to do for h}m. She later went to Ngaruawahia, where yesterday afternoon she took the liquid and the small stick. She became violently ill and a doctor was called in. The latter as a result of her serious condition, communicated with the police. The accused was remanded to appear at Hamilton on January 18, ball being refused. \
