Mr F. W. Christian M.A., Borough librarian, leaves to-morrow to attend the librarians conference at Dunedin. Mr George Plimmer, of the Palmerston North postal staff, resumed work yesterday after some months' leave through illness.

The Worshipful Company of woolmen has awarded its gold medal to Professor Cossar Ewart for research in wools, states a London cable. Mr R. W. Shallcrass, secretary of the Wellington Bowling Centre, was a visitor to Palmerston North yesterday and accompanies the British bowlers on their journey to Wellington this morning.

Colonel W. G. Braithwalte, C. 8., C.M.G., D.S.O, formerly of the New Zealand Staff Corps, and commander of the Second Infantry Brigade N.Z. E.F. retired from the British Army in November and was granted the honorary rank of brigadier-general. Mlia Madeleine Clarke, advance and publicity representative for Guy Bates Post, arrived in Palmerston North last evening to arrange for the forthcoming visit of the world-famous actor.
