FULL RACES FACE FLUCTUATING MARKETS

Large entries were the rule at Addington to-day, it being the first market for a fortnight. Store Sheep.—rA small entry of wethers, which sold at 1/- a head lower than at last sale. Two-toothed half-bred wethers made 23/- to 24/6: good, four and six-toothed wethers, 25/9 to 26/6; four, six and eighttoothed wethers, 21/1 to 24/3; soundmouthed cross-bred ewes, 26/- to 29/10; small Down cross lambs, 18/7. Fat lambs. —4300 head were penned, most of the entry being of prime quality. Owing to the short staffs of butchers at the freezing works, export buying was somewhat restricted and schedule export rates for the week were scarcely maintained, particularly for heavy-weights, and severe. l , export firms were not operating. Extra prime lambs made 32/- to 34/10; prime, 29/3 to 32/-; medium, 27/3 to 29/-: light, 25/- to 27/-. Fat sheep.—A heavy entry of wethers. At the commencement of the market, values were just a shade in advance of exporters’ prices, but the latter’s level was soon reached and there was a fair amount of export buying. Extra prime wethers sold to 35/1; prime wethers, 30/3 to 32/6; medium, 27/3 to 30/-; light, 25/- to 27/-; extra prime ewes, to 29/7; prime, 25/- to 28/-; medium, 22/- to 24/6: light. 19/- to 21/9; inferior. 17/to 18/6. Fat cattle.—s3o were penned, mostly of good quality. Some very prime medlm-weights showed a shade of firming on last sale, but big hillocks wer e easier by 20/- a head and heavy cows by 15/-. Extra choice beef in a few cases made 45/- per lOOlbs.; prime, medium-weight, 39/to 42/-; prime, heavy-weight, 34/- to 37/1; medium quality, 31/- to 34/-: light 27/6 to 30/6; and rough, (down to 22/6. Extra prime heavy-weight steers sold for £lB 10/- to £2O 7/6; prime heavy-weight, £l6 to £18; prim e medium-weight,, £l4 fO/6 to £l6 10/-; medium steers, £l2 5/- to £l4 5/-; light. £lO to £l2: rough, £8 5/- to £9 5/-; extra prime heifers, £lO to £l2; ordinary, £7 to £9 i5/-; light £5 to £6 10/-; extra prime to prime cows, £8 15/- to £lO 16/-; ordinary, £6 5/- to £8 10/-; light £3 15/- to £6. , v Vealers.—Runners realised up to £6 12/6 and calves, 15/- to 40/-. 'The demand was poor. Store cattle.—A line of two and three-year steers sold at £7 15/-. Good cows made to £4 5/-. x Dairy cattle.—Good springers sold well. Third and fourth , cal vers fetched to £l4 15/-; others, £6 to £11; good heifers, to £ls 5/-r medium to good,, £5 10/- to £10; odd sorts, £2 to £4. Fat pigs.—A large entry and a considerable drop In prices. Choppers sold from £3 to £5 15/-; baconers, £3 12/- to £6 15/- (average price P er lb.. 6d to 7d); porkers, 44/- to 66/r (average per lb., did to 7Jd). Store pigs.—The market was easier, in sympathy with the drop in the fat pig market. Weaners realised 19/- to 25/-; slips, 26/. to 28/-; small stores, 30/- to 34/-; medium, 35/ to 40/-; large stores, up to 50/-. JOHN SON VILLK SALE. Messrs "Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., and Abraham and Williams Ltd., in conjunction .report on Johnsonville Sale held yesterday as follows;—A good yarding of sheep and lambs came forward. Owing to the holidays there was ho sale last week and butchers supplies were short, consequently a good sale resulted. Sheep sold on a par with late rates. Competition for lambs was very keen and prices showed an advance on last sale. An average yarding of bullocks were offered and sold at prices on a par with late rates. Vealers were In keen demand.
