DANGERS OF THE SURF
MORE RESCUES AT LYAUU BAY.
The danger of disregarding the warning discs on the Uyall Bay beach was exemplified on Tuesday, when three bathers got into difficulties In the surf The first rescue was made about s’p.m., when a man, a visitor from Masterton, was caught in the undertow and carried out to sea. Fortunately his plight was noticed by members of the Xvfaxanui and l.yali Bay Surf Club, and Messrs. E. Pocook and F. Sleeman went to the rescue. After a hard struggle in the breakers they brought him ashore in an exhausted condition, but after resuscitation methods had been employed he was able to proceed to his home. About twenty minutes later there was more excitement on the beach when it became known that two women were in difficulties in almost the same place. Messrs. Rankin ahd Sleeman, of the Maranui Club, and Messrs. Dickson and Holland, of the T.yall Bay Club, went to their rescue, while Messrs. J. Williams and A. Holland took out the reel and extra belts. When brought ashore both women were in a very exhausted condition but after receiving attention, they recovered.
