PRINCESS OP SWEDEN
IS SHE OUR FUTURE QUEEN. ROYAL MATCH-MAKING IN PROGRESS. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] LONDON January B. It Is learned that the highest social and diplomatic circles are seriously ciscuesing the outcome of the forthcoming visit of Princess Astrid of Sweden, whose name is being Increasingly connected with that of the Prince of Wales. It is believed that Queen Mary, through the Government Foreign Office has been engaged in a discussion on the suitability of a marriage for the Prince of Wales ,whp, at a I-rev'ous meeting, was much attracted by Princess Astrid, whose stately dignity resembles Queen Mary’s. Official circles would welcome a match cementing Anglo-Swedlsh friouship, but nothing has yet been definitely arranged. Other high quarters closely connected with Royalty are of the opinion that Princess Astrid will probably marry Prince Henry, which, from the viewpoint of the Foreign Office, would bo equally satisfactory. Meanwhile official circles maintain the utmost secrecy concerning the details of the approaching visit. , His Majesty’s Government would be the last to suggest that the head should rule the heart In a matter of such Empire-wide importance, but It is further known that Their Majesties are anxious that the Prince of Wales’? marriage should , not be unduly post poned.
The King's health, despite his ap parent complete recovery, is still causing some anxiety, one lung remaining stubbornly weak.
The sudden silence of the London newspapers after the first sensational rumours Is highly significant, compared with the feverish eagerness of American correspondents to find the true facts.
