WORK AT AWAPUNI

There was nothing' of note done o*. the tracks at Awapunl yesterday morning: most of th e work was done on the plough. Very few of the outside stables have sent their representatives forward as yet and attentlOK was chiefly concentrated on the tasks of the- locally-trained candidates. The time 1.48 was recorded for a mile in a fast round In which Catcall and Benmure were partners, the foruior heading his companion In the run home after allowing him to make th«, running. Comedy Prince was credited with a sensational gallop the other morning, but this animal has a habit of doing things on the track that ho mostly refuses to do In public. Sanctuary and Capitulation were hent over 7 furlongs, the former outpacing his companion. Many Colours, which will again have the services of P. Mcßroarty at the meeting, left 7 furlongs behind In 1.87.

Avlaoguo, a newcomer with many

of the characteristics of his sire, was given slow work. Mackie was on the groatly-lmprovec Novar in a 7 furlongs dash with Martianette, which up to the present has proved a dud and which was of little assistance to the Sarto gelding. Ths watches said 1.34. Megalo was not asked to exert himself in a five furlongs dash. The task occupied 6 6 secs. The disappointing Martian filly Purple Lilac, went once round at & good bat and showed promise ot something better under silk. Askari and Polar went 6 furlongs in 1.19 and a tick. Later the Fellding Cup winner did a round in the reverse direction at three-quarter pace. Lady Dolwlll and Panlm were schooled inside the rail, with a sprint to wind-up. While Lady Dolwlll jumped cleanly, Panim's was an indifferent performance. Royal Diadem was not warmed up to do 6 furlongs in 1.22. After the breakfast adiournment, Hickey had his six candiadtes out. Aropeta pleased in a fast gallop from the five furlongs post. Bon March did a comfortable round at half pace. Olympic went two rounds at threequarter pace on the plough. Admiral Codrln-gton and MerrJ Damon did slow work. Purseprond pleased In a schooling task .and later cantered once round on the plough. WINNING FORM. These will be on sale to-day.
