The course proper outside three trestles was open for fast work and was in good order. Sir Archie covered a mile, the last seven furlongs in Imin 38 4-5 sec. Star Stranger and also did a mile, the last seven furlongs being covered in, Imin. 82 2-5 Sec. Queen Arch did four furlongs in 52i sec., and Horemea five furlongs from the old post in Imin. 7 4-Gsec. Thursby, Kawlni, and Frowning Beauty were in that order at the end of a round, done in 2min 5 3-5 sec. Centrepiece, not doing his best, did seven furlongs in imin 42sec. Royal Tea, Ngawati, and Ciarus in that order, did five furlongs from the new post in Imin. 6 4-ssec. Kiosk was in front of Decoy Bird over a similar distance in Imin 21sec. Master Doon and Cawnpore, together did five furlongs from the old post In Imin 6sec. Surveyor and Pelham took Imin. 6 2-ssec. Broadwood beat Royal Present over six furlongs in Imin. 20sec, and Commendation beat Joy King over a similar distance in Imin S. sec. Glentruin galloped four furlongs in 49 4-ssec —the best of the morning for the distance. Beacon Light left seven furlongs behind in Imin 88sec, and Loyal Irish and Exactly 6 furlongs in 1.21 4-5. Mandane and The Lamb went seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-ssec, and Pool’s Paradise and Black Cat four jurlongs In 50 4-5 secs. Count Cavour was slightly ahead of The Banker over a round in 2min Escc. Limited easily beat Saucy Lass and Romney over five furlongs from the new post in Imin 4 4-sse,;. Eden Hall beat Star Area over four furlongs in 50 8-5 sec. Desert Glow, alone, ran a mile and a quarter In 2min 14sec, the last round taking 2min 1 3-ssec —the best round done at Ellerslie for a long while. Pinelli, from a standing start, ran seven furlongs in Imin 33 2-5 sec. Black Cruiser was in front of Peter Amans and Sea Comet over six hurdles, hut Peter Amans could have improved on his showing. Archibald jumped two hurdles well.
