PUKEKOHE PRODUCE
POTATOES AND ONIONS. Tile market, for new Pukekohe potatoes is again firm, though, as anticipated, supplies came to hand fairly freely last week, weakening- the price somewhat. From information received, it is considered that the potato crops in the midd'e Waikato, Wellington, and Manawatu districts will prove exceptionally light owing to the adverse weather experienced, with the result that the Pukekohe district will be called on to supply (he Dominion in the main with potatoes until the Southern yields begin to come to hand in March or April. This may result in the prices hardening and remaining comparatively high for some time, as compared with previous seasons. The selling price at Pukekohe to-day is somewhat uncertain. Ton lots are quoted at £ls 10/- f.o.r. Pukekohe, with some cwt. lots going out at 15/C. The onion crops arc making good progress, and it is expected that fresh onions will be on the market in about a fortnight. A big- acreage has been planted out this season, and it is considferod that an export market wilf bo very desirable again to help to profitably dispose of the big yield antipated.
