BLAZE AT DARGAVILLE
BIG GARAGE DESTROYED. LOSSES GREATLY EXCEED COVERAGE. [Per Press Association.] DARGAVILLE, Dec. 2. A destructive fire broke out last night in the North Auckland Farmers’ Co-operative garage, one of the largest buildings in the town. The brigade were on the spot In three minutes, but owing - to the inflammable nature of the stock the place was soon a raging furnace. A theatre next door, the ' largest wooden building in Dargaville, was saved with minor damage although the corridor at the side, containing the whole of the theatre seats, which had been stored there after a recent dance, was practically burnt out. The building destroyed contained a very valuable plant, and about IS motor cars, mostly privately owned besides motor cycles. Only 6 out o' IS cars were saved. The firm was unfortunate enough to lose two cars and a motor truck just landed. A large stock of motor accessories was also destroyed.
The insurances, so far as is known, amount to £3SGO. Some private cars destroyed carried small insurance. The theatre is insured for £2338. The loss is many thousands over the insurances.
