WEDDING BELLS. WICKES —-WHITE. At All Saints’ Church, Palmerston North, yesterday afternoon the Rev. J. C. Abbott officiating, the marriage took place of Alice (“Doodie”) only daughter of Mr and Sirs C. W. White, of Church street, and Mr H. Gordon Wickes, of Palmerston North. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, looked charming in a gown of white satin, she also wore the customary veil with wreath of orange blossom. The three bridesmaids, all cousins of the bride, Misses Mamie and Lconoro Wilkie, of Marton, and Miss Becky Pelham, of Auckland, wore pretty dressfes of a new shade of coral crepe-de-chine, 'sky blue and lavender crepe-de-chine respectively. Each wore a wreath en suite and carried a bouquet of carnations and sweet peas. , The best man watS Mr C. White, brother of the bride. Included amongst the guests present was the bride’s grandfather, Mr J. C. Pelham, of Auckland, who despite his 85 years made the journey to Palmerston North to witness the ceremony. Others present were Mesdames A. W. Ford, H. B. Taylor, and J. C. Pelham, junr., of Auckland, and Mrs Alec Wilkie of Marlon, all aunts of the bride. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s parents when the usual toasts were honoured. The wedding cake and bouquets were made by Mrs Ford. The delegates to the annual conference of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children were accorded a civic welcome to-day. The Mayor (Mr Tapley M.P.), paid a tribute to the work of the society, and to Sir Truby King remarked that Sir Truby King's methods had resulted in the saving of 1000 babies a year, and the people of the Dominion could not do too much to aid such work.
