IN THE MARKET PLACE
Although prices on the fish market have not shown much change of late, the prospects for cheaper supplies are fairly bright. Fish has been coming to hand a little more freely during the last day or two, and when the prevailing westerly abates all will be wall on the fish market. At present groper is a little scarce but supplies of terakihi, gurnet, cod, moki, and kingflsh are equal to requirements. Strawberries are a little cheaper than last week. They are now 1/6, 1/9 and 2/- per chip box. Cherries are now selling at 2/- a lb., and hothouse tomatoes 2/- to 2/6 a lb. Bananas are 1/- for string of 8 or IT, and good quality at 14 fo 1/-. Oranges and lemons are both plentiful and cheap. Asparaguses down to 1/- a bunch. Lettuces and spring cabbages are still very dear. The first of the spring carrots are bringing 4d a bunch.
