DEATH FROM POISONING

FATALITY AT HAMILTON OPEN VERDICT RETURNED. HAMILTON, November 30. An inquest into the circumstances of the. death of Peter Neilson, a labourer, aged 57, who was found dead at a boarding houso in Victoria Street, Hamilton, on Friday evening, was held before Mr. Wyvorn Wilson, coroner. Constable Lloyd said Neilson had no fixed abode. He was addicted to drink. A labourer, Charles Nelson, said he met Neilson on Friday afternoon and spent two hours with him drinking They went to a boadrlng house and shortly afterwards witness found de. ceased dead. His face was bleeding as the result of a fall.

Dr. F, M. Spencer gave evidence that he conducted a postmortem examination and found that death was due to the drinking of a poison. The coroner said it appeared deceased had been on a drinking bout for some days and that he had died as the result of drinking poison. There was no evidence to show whether deceased drank the poison accidentally while in a muddled state or whether he drank it intentionally while in a fit of despondency. A verdict was returned accordingly.
