TARANAKI NEWS
NEVER HAD SUCH A BAD SEASON. LOWER PRICES. Farmers of lons' residence In Taranaki express the opinion that they have never had to contend with such a bad season as the present one, says the report of the Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Organisation Society. The past few days have been very rough, the winds blowing up to the force Of a gale, and we have had several hailstorms. What rain w e have had, and any likely beneficial results from it, have been counteracted by the strong drying winds. Hay crops are going to •be decidedly light. The grass has all
run to tops with vary little .bottom in the paddock. The stock markets ar e not firm by any means, prices being very erratic and bidding lacking any animation. The stock is in very fair condition and the cows have done ro‘markably well Jtho last! few week: under adverse conditions. Butchers are now looking for quality in the beef line and not, as a few weeks ago, when it was a case of kill what was offering. Prices remain at last week’s rates on quality cattle, but aged cows have eased slightly. Fat sheep have come back a couple of shillings, and appear to be . firming - round about present rates. Store cattle have come back in price slightly, and all yearling heifers except outstanding quality have eased considerably. Pigs have eased in proportion to the drop in price of baconers.
