ALMOST DOUBLED ON LAST MONTH. Figures relating to building activity in Palmerston for November show a big increase on the corresponding month Inst year. They are almost doubled. Up to Saturday, lb ore bad been 41 permits issued for building In the Borough,, those being in value £84,009 as against 31 permits, for work valued at £17,553, for November, 1924. Tho largest undertaking Is the block of shops and offices in the Square for the Coombs Estate, tho value of those being £16,083,, while an unusually largo dwelling of ten rooms Is going up in Victoria Street at £4,300. It will be of brick and wood. Houses number cloven so fur this month, the total value of these being placed at £18,839. Although November, 1924, is not far behind with ten houses, the difference in valuo is very wide, the figure for November last year being £8,900, an increase for this month of £4,789. This shows (hat a better class of house is going up than wan tho cose laat yca-x, the average value being £1,239, as against £B9O. Housing figures for this month do not include a combined *shop and residence, which is going up on the corner of Fltaherborfc and College street for Mr. T. E. FnfßcU. It will be In briok, and Is valued at £IBBS. Alterations and additions account for £2,574, and motor sheds and oilier building® for tho remainder. It cost £550 to renovate and reinstate the Working Men’s Club after the conflagration there recently.
