THREE MILE RUN
ROSE FAILS TO LOWER OWN RECORD. [Per Press Association.] . WANGANUI, Last Night. At the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Association’s carnival on Saturday, Randel ;A. Rose, long distance champion of New Zealand, made an unsuccessful attempt to break the three mile Australasian record established at Cook’s Gardens at the championship meeting last season. His time for the distance was 15 minutes 5 8-5 seconds, 20 2-5 seconds short of the record. A strong westerly wind that swept the ground militated against fast times, while In addition to this there was no competition capable of extending Rose and he had to finish the last three-quarters of a mile without being paced. He sprinted over the last forty yards and finished comparatively fresh amidst the plaudits of a large crowd of spectators.
