THIS YEAR'S WOOL CLIP
HEAVY cf crease in yield. Experts are convinced • that the wool clip in the North Island this season will be many thousand bales less than last season, and it must not bo forgotten that for every thousand bales less wool a sum approximately £30,000 will be lost to the Dominion, states the “New Zealand Times.” In Poverty Bay it is considered that 20,000 bales less will be got this season than last, and this represents a loss to the district of the enormous sum of £600,000. A similar position is said to obtain in the Hawke’s Bay, and there in fact few districts where the clip will be anything like that of last year.
It is contended that though light the clip will bring higher prices. Decause it is cleaner, and although it must be admitted that much of the wool at present being shorn is clean and bright, it must not be forgotten that the sheep have not grown the wool this year. One big station in Poverty Bay which shears early each season,, and which keeps careful records of the average weight of the fleeces, found this year that the hoggets gave only SJlb of wool each. Bast -year the average of the whole flock was Gib, and asa the very Dest conditions prevail on the station, it may be taken that this is the average loss In weight in that district this season.
