AN ANCIENT FAMILY
THE GRANT OF NORBURY. FITZHERBERTS CELEBRATED 800th ANNIVERSARY. The following appealed in the London “Morning Post” of October 6: — A gathering of considerable interest took place at Claridge’s Hotel last night, when Lord Stafford, Sir Hugo PitzHerbert, Major W. H. FitzHerbort, Captain Fitz Herbert, R.N., and Lieut-enant-Colonel Norman Fitz Herbert were the' hosts at a family dinner of the FitzHerberts to celebrate the. eight Hundredth anniversary cf the grant of Norbury, Derbyshire, from the Prior of Tutbury, to their common ancestor William, son of Herbert, in 1126, Lord Stafford, who is the twentyninth Lord of the Manor of Norbury,' head of the family, has the origInal deed still in his possession. This ancient Derby,-mire family has been settled in that county since 1125, and those present last night represented the Norbury. Somersal-Herbert, and Ties!avion FitzHerberts. There wore also present several members from New Zealand, where a numerous branch of the family is established. During the evening Lord Stafford presented each guest with a photograph of the 800 years’ old deed Here follows a long list of members of the family who were invited: By way of addition to the "Morning Post’s” report it may be stated that each, member of the family in New Zealand has received a photographic copy of the deed. LieutenantColcnel Norman Fitzherbert formerly lived at “Aberfeldio,” Makirlklri, and now resides at 35 Iverna Gardens, Kensington, London. Members of the Fitzherbert family in the Dominion are the sous and daughters cf the late Arthur Fitzhorbeit, of Marton, and the late Anthony Fitzherbert, of Pending and Palmerston North, and also Mr. W. L. Fitzherbert, solicitor, of Palmerston North.
