NURSES’ ESCAPADE ON FIRE ESCAPE
HOSPITAL BOARD REFUSES TO REINSTATE AUTHORITY FROWNS ON “MERE INDISCRETION.” [For Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Last Night The Hospital Board discussed at considerable length the case of six hospital nurses who had been dismissed for a breach of discipline in returning to the nurses’ home after hours. The nurses arrived back late and instead of reporting late and entering the building in the usual way, they climbed the fire escape ladders and got to their respective quarters in that way. Some members of the Board thought the nurses had been too severely punished for what was described as an indiscretion. One member of the Board said some of the girls had been drinking, but this was denied by the medical superintendent. .A motion to rescind the original motion dismissing the grls was defeated by 8 votes to 6. The Board said there was nothing to prevent the dismissed nurses applying for re-ap-polntment and they would be considered on their merits.
