SMALL TRIO’S LONG WALK
PARNELL TO NEWMARKET,
Three little children, the eldest aged only four years, set out on a walking tour from Parnell at one o’clock on Monday afternoon, and It was not until half-past seven that their anxious parents hoard that they had been found in Newmarket. The tiny trio was made up of Constance Smith, aged 3 years 8 months, daughter of Constable Smith, of 4 Stanwell Street, Parnell; Kathleen Henderson, aged 4 years, residing at 2 Stanwell Street, and her brother, Charles, aged 2 years. When the glad news was received that the children had been found shfo and sound in Broadway, Mrs. Smith collapsed, the relief being so great after the long tension. Apparently the youngsters simply wandered on and on up Parnell Rise and along to Newmarket It must have been a weary tramp on hard pavements for little feet, and a risky one as well, with the eldest aged only four. Whether the trio strayed at all from the busy Manukau Road or kept steadily ahead is not known, as all three were too tired to give any clear account of their doings and were only too glad to get home and be tucked up in bed.
