BOBBED HAIR IN BERLIN

TRIUMPH OF “BUBIKOPFE” DESPERATE STRUGGLE ENDS After a desperate struggle "hob. bed hair” has triumphed in erlin at last. So great 3ias the opposition to it been that young women were mobbed in the street for no other reasoi that that they were “the short-haP pioneers.” "Bubikopfe”—baby . boy’s head —is the German term for “bobbed hair.” and it has almost become a term of disdain. German fathers, brother.and fiances wez-e so sternly agains this fashion that young women had to resort to the trick of coming home badly hacked. They said they had been attacked by some unknown person who had cut off their hair. To go to the barber’s and have it "cut straight” was, therefore, the onl\ thing to be done. Thus was "bubi kopf” achieved by the pioneer a onlj a few months ago. Then a few weeks ago. "bublkopf suddenly became the rage—for no very apparent reason. The barber’s shops experienced an unexpected and overwhelming feminine invasion Mere man found it difficult to get a shave in the West-end of Berlin —his part of the shops, 100, being crowded out with would-be “bubikopfe.” When it was announced that Frau, lein Fern Andra and Fraulein Elsa Berna, two brilliant and fixed stars in the German film firmament, had been “under tho scissors.” tho rush war such that there wore queues at the barbers’ shops and beauty parlours. In some of these establishments as many as 100 to 150 “bubikopfe” wore "created” in a single day:

This daring person is Fraulein Alice Hechy, tin beautiful star of Berlin’s most colossal revue. She absolutely refuses to part with the blond "cataract of her hair.” She does not appear strange to say,, to be any the less popular for that determination in face of conquering fashion. Feminine Berlin is generally a good way behind as iar as fads and lashions are concerned. Now. however, thg has made up the "bobbed hair” leeway. But she hag still to hear of "shingling” and to invent a word for it!
