A COMMERCIAL SHIPMENT OF CHILLED BEEF
AUSTRALIAN EXPERIMENT. Encouraged by the results of the recent trial shipment of chilled beef to London by the Port Darwin, as a test of the Rayson process, a shipment under commercial conditions is being arranged, says our Australian correspondent. Mr Rayson returned to Sydney from Brisbane, where, he informed the Ausctralian Meat Council he was successful in securing a supply of prime fat cattle, which he purhased at 30/- per 1001 bex Brisbane. He has also arranged with the Commonwealth and Domlniicfn line of steamers for a hold in one cf the Company’s steamers. Immediately the strike is settled, however, a steamer will be made available, and the work of specially preparing the hold for the reception of the beef will be put in hand.
This will be the first commercial shipment of chilled beef from Australia. The promoters are displaying commendable enterprise and self-reli-ance in the matter in arranging to forward a considerable parcel of beef of the best quality, and in defraying the rather heavy expense of necessary alterations to the ship before the beef can he loaded.
