SHANNON.

CHORAL SOCIETY. [From Our Own Correspondent.] The Shannon Society visited Levin on Thursday night and repeated the oratorio “Esther” at the Century Hall before a largo attendance. The chorus and soloists were again in good form and their efforts were greatly appreciated. After the oratorio had concluded a few musical items were rendered by Miss Pickles (violin), Mr. Howard Hunter (song). Miss Capes (recitation), Mr. H. Andrew (monologue), all of which were encored. At the conclusion Mr. Bishop, chairman of the school committee, thanked the visitors for the splendid performance: the school, he stated, would benefit to the extent of about £ls. A splendid supper was provided by the ladies who received a vote of thanks from Mr. Andrew, A Close Call. A local resident caused quite a stir in a restaurant last evening. He was demonstrating the action of a gun and in doing so it was accidentally discharged. Fortunately the contents passed through the roof. The fact that the gun was loaded, of course, was overlooked. It is- understood the police are enquiring into the affair. MOUTOA. REMEMBRANCE.
