PLUNK EX SOCIETY. [From Our Own Correspondent.] A meeting- o£ the Foxton branch of the Plunket Society took place yesterday afternoon, those present being Mesdames A. Ross (in the chair), Pearson, Christie. Heasman, Trueman and McMurray. Apologies were read from Mesdames F. Robinson, Walton, McDonald, Barr and Owen. The Foxton Borough Council sent a donation of £2 2/-. —Received with thanks. The Plunket nurse (Miss Hughes) reported that she had paid four visits to the town; adults visiting the office numbered G 4, children 79, visits to homes 10. Two new cases had been undertaken. The secretary was asked to write to Mrs. L. A. Abraham, Palmerston North, expressing the committee’s sympathy with her in her recent accident and hopes for her speedy recovery. Mesdames Heasman and McMurray were appointed visitors for the month and Miss A. Ross, flower .steward.' Contributions to the box totalled 5/3. A Derelict Car. A good deal of speculation has been rife regarding a practically new Ford car which was left, in the flood area on the Whirikino road, alongside the main drain, about a week ago. Fears were entertained that the occupants had stopped out into the drain and been drowned, as only the hood of the car was showing. Particulars have now come to hand that the car belongs to a resident of New Plymouth and had been taken away without his authority. No doubt more will be heard of the incident. BOROUGH - COUNCIL.

The Foxton Borough Council mot last night, those present being the Alayor (Air. Al. Pcrreau), Councillors Adams, Parkin, Walker, Winstanley. Cowley. Woods, Thompson and AlcMurray.

The treasurer’s statement showed credit balances amounting to £0,7 6-1 15/7. Accounts amounting to £2,840 were passed for payment. The report of the town hall committee recommending that the proprietor of the Royal Thea-tr* bo offered, without prejudice, a weekly rental of £5 10/for live years. This was a counteroffer which Mr. Hamer submitted to the last Council meeting.—The report was adopted. The report of the public works committee recommended that a loan proposal be put to the ratepayers to borrow £SOOO to reconstruct and tar-seal the following streets: Main, Union, Johnston, Purcell, Park Russell, Lady’s Mile and Avenue road, a total of 235 chains, and to construct footpaths in the following streets: Cook, Union, Francis, Avenue road, Russell, Thynno, Robinson, Duncan, Lady’s Mile and Ravensworth Place, a total of ISO chains. —After much discussion it was decided to adopt the recommendation and to add Nor.blton road to the list and that Brown street from Union to Reeve streets, be formed and graded. The reserves committee reported recommending that the area of Easton Park reserved for football in future bo at the eastern end, playing north and south, that the area to the right of the entrance be reserved for a children’s playground; that the area to the left be allocated to, tennis and croquet; that the balance of the western boundary be fenced and planted with two-year-old trees. —Adopted. The Foxton Football Club was given permission to remove the fence it had erected in the park. Two tenders wer e received for cutting trees in Victoria Park, but neither was accepted. The Bowling Club requested a donation of a truck of sham sand for

top-dressing. and after a lively discussion. the request was declined. A letter -was received front the Shannon Dairy Co. regarding- repairing the Shannon bridge and enclosing a report from the engineers, Councillors Woods, Thompson and Adams were appointed to represent the Council at a conference to be held at the bridge to-day. The Council passed a resolution that it. was of opinion that the proposal passed by a previous conference for a new bridge should be adhered to and that the commencement of the work should b expedited. The tender of Evans Bros, for planting trees on the Target Reserves at S/3 per hundred and of fencing at S/- a chain was accepted. The Beautifying Society asked that Mr. Blacks* scheme in regard to Easton Park be carried out.—lt was decided that the Council reply that it was willing to adopt the scheme and to co-operate with the Society in carrying it out. It was decided to call applications for the position of ranger. Two designs were received from Mr. Harris for drop curtains for the Town Hall and these were approved for immediate carrying out.
