NOTES OF THE DAY.

Plans and specifications have been prepared and are now in readiness fpt the re-commencement of the Awahuri road sewerage extension work. An order has been placed by the Borough Council for one hundred street name plates at a cost of 3/9 each, to replace the many damaged ones.

At last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, it was decided on the recommendation of the works committee, to provide a tar-sealed footpath in Manchester street in front of the sale yards, the work to be undertaken during the coming tarring season.

The manager of the Borough abattoir, reported at last night’s Council meeting that during the months of June, 41 cows, 43 heifers, 4-6 oxen, 52 ewes, 177 wethers, 20 lambs, 58 pigs and 7 calves were dealt with at the abattoir, while fees amounted to £62 13/4, as compared with £B9 2/6 for the corresponding month of last year. At last evening's meeting of the Feilding Borough Council, the reservoir caretaker reported _ that everything was in good working order at both the intake and the reservoirs. The frequent changing over of reservoirs during the past month was due to the floods in the river. This course of action to deal with the discoloured water enabled the town to receive a fairly clear supply. The weir at the intake withstood the several floods. A start has been made with the general tidying up of the Feilding cemetery and certain recommendations of the Borough engineer respecting the main entrance, with a view to improving the general lay-out, are to bo given effect to. During June, 247 subscribers to the Municipal Library took out 1470 books, as against 239 subscribers Jn June of last year, who went through 1560 books.

Farmers and gardeners are reminded of the course of lectures on manures and fertilisers,, topdressing etc., -which are being given each Friday evening by jMr. D. J. Wild, M.A., Director of the Agricultural High School, in the Technical College, Forgusson street. To-night’s lecture will commence at 7.30 p.m. The lectures are free to all. By resolution of the Peilding Borough Council last night, West Avenue will in future be known as Harford Street. After a deputation from the W.E.A. (Feilding branch) had waited on the Borough Council_ last evening, it was decided to grant £5 towards the Association’s funds.
