The Dunedin Waterside Workers passed the following resolution: “That this Union of Dunedin waterside workers desires co record its sympthy with Comrade Noel Dyons and at the same time is filled with repugnance over the brutal sentence of nine months’ hard labour passed on a man whose only offence lay in trying to improve the standard of life for men serving in the mercantile marine. The vitriolic lash of the law, which flogged into durance vile an honest man, is typically characteristic of capitalistic spleen and in this instance, the much-vaunted phrase “British fair play and justice has boon prostituted beyond all recognition. The Union pledges itself to assist, in every way, means of obtaining the release of Noel Dyons.” AUSTRALIA’S WAY. SG DEPORTEES LAST YEAR. (Received Thursday, 11 p.m.) MELBOURNE, July 9. In the Senate, Mr. Pearce stated that eighty-six persons had been deported from Australia last year under the Immigration Restriction Act. They wore mostly foreigners.
