LOOKING TO WALL STREET
AUSTRALIAN LOAN' POSSIBILITIES. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Aust. and N. 55. Cable Association.] (Received Thursday, 5.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, July S. The “New York Times’ ” financial editor says that with to-morrow approaches the maturity date of a large amount of Australian Government bonds, causing New York bankers to discuss the possibility of an Australian loan here, Australia, so far, has done all her financing in London, but it is believed some have been shifted to New York this year. Several Wall Street firms are known to be seeking business, as Australia enjoys a high credit and securities should go well here. The British return to the gold standard has put a virtual ban on new financing, even in the colonies, this factor allowing the forthcoming Australian refunding issues to be floated in New York. In addition to refunding her war debts, Australia, it is known, desires capital for the extension of public •works.
