Mr. R. A. Noedl returned to Palmerston North last night after a brief visit to Wellington.
Sir Ernest and Lady Rutherford are sailing from London to New Zealand shortly. A London message states that Lord Islington, a former Governor of New Zealand, is seriously ill following an operation. Messrs. H. L. Young (president) and C. T. Salmon (secretary) of the Palmerston North Rotary Club, have been invited to a dinner to bo given by Wanganui Rotarians to the Gov-ernor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson. Dr. J. M. Twhigg, forwarded his resignation to the Palmerston North Hospital Board yesterday,' the .same being received with regret. The chairman (Sir James Wilson) remarked that Dr. Twhigg had done excellent work during the two years he had been on the Hospital staff. He felt sure other members of the Board would join with him in wishing the doctor success in his new venture. Mr W. S. Dustin, of Palmerston North, returned by .the “Limited” express last night, after spending a few days in Wellington. Taking it all round,-the “combined” Rugby team chosen by Messrs. Harry Buck (Wellington), T. Wrigley (Levin), and W. is. Dustin (Palmerston North) did exceedingly well in Wednesday’s match against the All Blacks. The selectors are to bo congratulated upon their fairness to the three unions concerned in finding the opposition to the New Zealand representatives.
Mr. W. T. (Ned) Parata, the wellknown Maori Rugby organiser, was a passenger by the limited express last night on route to Rotorua. He was manager of the 1910, 1913, 1922 and 192 3 Maori tours of Australia. Mr. Parata has completed arrangements for a Maori team to play Canterbury at Christchurch on Saturday, August 22. The team will be selected after the Te Mori Rose Bowl game (north v. South) at Wellington on August IS. Arrangements could not be made for an extensive tour, as none of the other unions could offer anything but a Wednesday match.
