1924 AND 1925 ALL BLACKS.

INLATCH NOT IJKELY TO EVENTUATE. ENGLISH . TEAM’S SHORTAGE OP FORWARDS. [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Last Night. The effort to carry out the proposal for a match between the 1924 and 1925 All Blacks is apparently not being attended by much success and with the information already to hand, the prospect of the game eventuating now seems remote. While a good set of backs is available, .not many forwards of the 1924 combination have sent in their names for selection, the majority signifying that they will not be able to participate in the match.

‘‘Ponty” is of opinion there is nothing to commend the match. Far bettor give the New Zealand public a chance to sec the famous All Blacks In action by confining the New Zealand team to meet New South Walds at Auckland in September to members of the 1924 side. "Playing the Game.'' Criticism of football referees by both players and spectators was the subject of discussion at a meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Rugby Union management committee last week. One incident referred to was the outcome of a Pirates-Hastings match, when the referee was criticised by a representative player. He has since apologised and the matter will be allowed to (Jrop, though in future the union intends to uphold the Referees’ Association in any action it may take to suppress objectionable criticism. Getting the Result Early. At least one Wanganui Rugby enthusiast imagined he was present at the All Blacks-Metropolitan match at Sydney on Wednesday. Pic was listen-ing-in on his wireless when the halftime scores were announced, New Zealand 13, Metropolitan 5. At once the enthusiast settled down to await further pronouncements. Metropolitan scored a try—l3—S—and then they crossed the line again and converted —13 —13. The final score. 18—16 in favour of Metropolitan, was given and that was how the result of the game was known in Wanganui about 4.45 p.m.—-within a minute of the final whistle and an hour and ahalf before the cablegram came tc hand.
