Two years ago Mrs. Gorgan, of Los Angelos, lost her husband, who left, a fortune of two million dollars, made by speeuating in oil. The widow, who had a nineteen-year-old son, Patrick, later married Thomas Young, a leading Los Angeles dentist. Mrs. Young mysteriously disappeared last February, since when the police have kept a watch on Young and finally arrested him on a charge of murdering his wife. After his arrest, Young stated that he killed his wife, and placed her body in a cistern near their country bungalow. Patrick, without any knowledge of the crime, assisted him to fill the cistern with cement.
After the confession, the police visited the bungalow and recovered the body from the cement. The police who wore long baffled by the cleverness with which Young concealed his crime, eventually obtained a duo through a diamond ring which he had removed from the dead woman’s finger and presented to his girl office assistant. The girl handed it over to the police.
