ON THE TRACKS. . AT AWAPUNI. Much useful work was got through on the Awapuni tracks yesterday morning, but there was little demanding the notice of the timekeeper, most of the tasks being confined to half pace, trotting and walking exercise. On account of the rather heavy state of the tracks, the outside of the track proper was used. Pantler went a mile and a-half, but was not asked to gallop, Megalo and Benmure, the others of A. After breakfast, Orazone and Town Crier did four . furlongs in company, the former being ahead at the finish. The No. 1 grass track was available for fast work at Ellerslic this morning, and despite the rain overnight it was in good order. The weather was fine before the breakfast interval. The popular annual fixture of the Pahiatua Racing Club is to be bold on January 28th and 29th. Nominations for all events close on January 8 th.

Greenwood, however, stated that a further name had to be added lo the list, (hat ot R, Hatch. He said that Hatch had been retained by him 15 years ago, and ho was of opinion that that joc. key was one of the greatest horsemen ever seen in New Zealand. A return to the saddle of a rider of • Hatch’s ability would bo welcomed by all sportsmen. Apparently another rider has been over-looked, for H. Gray won the A.R.C. Royal Stakes on Gloaming.
