If Royal Divorce does not contest the big event, he is ."jure to be a strong order for the Christmas Handicap at Auckland.

The Great Northern Derby, which is run on the third day of the A.R.C. meeting, should prove an interesting race. Count Cavour won the New Zealand Derby at Riccarton, with Inferno and Tanadecs in the places. Footfall won the Hagley Handicap, nine furlongs, at Riccarton, while Starmist won the Oaks. • Mount Marta, Tuahine, and Sandstar are all winners this season, while Master Doon has run well. Killocra was a good two-year-old, and his prospects were so bright early in the season that he was sent across to Sydney for the iA.J.C. Derby, but went amiss.

According to a Wellington writer, it is probable that a committee of mem. bers of Parliament will be set up early in the New Year to inquire into ail aspects of racing, and th e cause of the .recent fatalities to jockeys wii be fully gone into.

The Wellington R.C. and Manawatu R.C. have come to an arrangement in regard to the dates for their autumn meetings. The former club will race during the last week in March and the Manawatu P # C. a week later.

Should Royal Blood succeed in winning the forthcoming Railway Handicap under 9.9, he will have the credit of creating a fresh weight-carrying record in connection with the six furlong race at Ellcrslie. The existing weight.carrying record in the Railway Handicap in hold by Hohoro, who carried 9. r 6to victory in 1903. Royal Blood put up a fresh time record (1.12 3-5) for the Railway Handicap when ho won the race in question two years back. On that occasion he only carried 7.0.

Tacked on to the announcement that the law actions connected with the Purser case are to be withdrawn is the interesting statement that the three-year.old Heroic is likely to be taken to England, whither Mr Corteen and his trainer, C. Godby, are expected to proceed shortly,,. This statement at least shows that the nego. tiations opened up some few weeks back for the purchase of the Valais colt by a South Australian sportsman at E 20.000 have been terminated. It is difficult to see how the transference of Herioc from Australia to England at this stage can be advantageous. The disqualification existing against Mr Corteen operates in England, and that means Heroic would be ineligible to race there until October next. Then, again, the transportation of racehorses from the Southern to the Northern Hemisphere is not to be regarded with a light heart. Possibly Mr Corteen may have the ambition to win the Ascot oGld Cup with Heroic, but a lot of things have to happen in the flight of time before such can be brought about. —“Phaeton.’’

The gift supreme this Christmas can be a fur coat, Collinson and Cunningham e are making special Christmas concessions to enable the purchase of this wonderful gift to be effected at a big saving. Prices range from 19gns. (Mole, Coney) to 145gns. (Hudson Bay Seal). Christmas concession prices 15gns. to 128’gns.—Collinson and Cunninghame.
