CRICKET ASSOCIATION
WEEKLY MEETING,
The weekly meeting of the Manawatu Cricket Association wia® hold last evening, when Mr F. J. Oakley presided. Other members present w r erc: Messrs R. Brace, H. E. Bennett, F. Hubbard, A. M. Ongley and G. K. Holder (Hon. See.). Correspondence. The Rangitikei Cricket Association wrote asking on what date the match to be played at Marten would take place and suggested December 26 or 27. The latter day was fixed for the match. . . .. The New Zealand Cricket Council wrote informing - the Association that Hawke’s Bay would play Nelson during the Christmas holidays and asked the Association to take up its challenge either at Hawke’s Bay or Nelson during the New Year holidays. It was decided to inform the Council that Manawatu would challenge for the Cup and to suggest that if the game bo against Nelson on January 5, 6 and 7 and if against Hawke’s Bay, On January 6, 7 and 8. A cheque for £l9 12/6 was received from the Sports Queen Committee as its part of the subsidy.—£l is to be returned as a presentation and 12/G given to the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Fund. On Mr Ongley’s motion, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Oakley and Bennett for their services as representatives of the Cricket Association on the Queen Carnival committee.
The Feilding Association Is anxious to form itself into a Minor Association, but the New Zealand Council had been unwilling to take territory away from any Association. The chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council Management Committee considered that- it would be better if Feilding became a sub-Assooiation. — tit was decided to inform, the writer that offers had been made to Feilding to play trial matches last year, but it had replied that it was unable to play owing to cup fixtures and that nothing could be done in the matter until the Feilding Association wrote. It was also decided to write to the Feilding Association, stating that the Association would like to see Inter-play between Feilding a’nd Palmerston -North and that Mr Ongley had stated he would donate a trophy for play between the two Associations. A letter was received staling that a party of cricketers would be visiting the district and wished to play the Manawatu representatives i’n a friendly game on January 14.—Agreed to. General. The South Hawke’s Bay match will be played on Boxing Day at Palmerston North. In view of the proposed Hawke Cup match between Manawatu and either Nelso’n or Hawke’s Bay in tao New Year holidays, it was decided to write to the Hawke’s Bay Association stating that Manawatu would be unable to play on January 1 and 2. The President, Secretary, and Treasurer were appointed a committee to carry on during the holidays. Mr. Oakley was appointed manager for ithc Hawke Cup match. r?■— ~ ====sg==g*==-==gg~g
