HART GETS A CRACK

FOUR TRIES AT CARLISLE UNPOPULAR. In achieving a sweeping victory over Cumberland, the champion Rugby county of England last year, the All Blacks displeased the home team and its supporters to such an extent that uncontrollable feelings led to some ugly incidents. During the progress of the game, temper got the better of some of the Cumberland players, and much bad sportsmanship was shown by a one-sided crowd. But worst of all was an occurrence after the final whistle had sounded. In this Hart, the All Black wing-three-quar-ter,, was the victim of an assault by a member of the Cumberland team. Tho fact that Hart received a blow on the face is mentioned, but there is nothing to suggest that action was taken against tho offender. Matters were so bad at the termination of the game that the players had to return to tho dressing-rooms under police escort. Of the first international match there are details from the special correspondent of “The Post” quite the reverse of those concerning the Cumberland match. The All Blacks received a great reception in Ireland, and appreciation of their good play was shown just as spontaneously as was that of the Irish team’s efforts. (Written for “Tho Post,” by L., Simpson, the well-known referee.) 26th October.
