TREK TO KENYA.
The recent death in East Africa (Kenya Colony), of Mr Bruce Morlson (son of the late Mr C. B. Morison, K.C.) of Wellington has drawn the attention of New Zealanders to the trek that is going on to that weird and wonderful country. Mr H. H, Ostler, the well-known Auckland barrister, has a ranch In Kenya Colony: also Mr J. H. Goss, recently sheep farming on the East Coast of Marlborough-Kekerangu. He is a brother of Mr Wm. Goss, Canter, bury’s G.O.M. of tennis. ‘Mr Geo. Grifflths, a Blenheim boy, who ■ distinguished himself in the Great War, recently took up a big block of country in Kenya, In partnership with a few other New Zealanders. Mr Bruce Morison was a Residency Commissioner In the Colony.
Tlic two officials of the Manawatu A.A. (and C.C. who were measuring the hammer throws on Saturday had a narrow shaver. They were measuring a throw when a bolt from the blue arrived. A competitor dropped a shot a few feet from the one of the twain l"(djo was down on his marrow bones with the tape. It does not appear that a New Zealand 'team will be got away for the Olympic Games at Paris. Peter Mnnro will not go, and R. D. Rose is just over an operation for appendicitis, while everybody knows of Wilson s unfortunate accident at Hobart when over in Tasmania for the Australasian championships. Miss Shand (lady swimmer),'.Herd (breast-stroke champion) and Tracy are the only likely starters of the truly representative stamp of athlete. But finance is as big a stumbling block and it is a terrible reflection upon a sporting community that a few hundred pounds cannot be found to send the team.
