There were strange Incidents In the Letterkenny asylum strike, the reason whereof was the refusal to increase wages. Demobilised soldiers responded to the call for volunteers, but their presence caused six hundred inmates to get out of hand, many escaping_ Citizens joined the guards in the’ search and all were recaptured. The strikers picketed the asylum, and when they detected an inmate scaling a wall they promply seized him and handed him over to the superintendent
