DESTRUCTIVE FIRE

At 11. SO a.m. yeseerday, the Bri» gade received a call to No. 332 Church Street East, the residence of Mr A. Polkinghorne. The fire which obviously originated in the washhouse w’as detected by Mrs Hancock, the next door neighbour, who promptly gave the alarm. There was no one home at the lime, for Mrs Polkinghorne had only just left the house, presumably to attend the races. On arrival of the Brigade, it was found that three rooms in the back portion of the house had been attacked and much damage done. Tha premises were fairly old, being valued at £750 and insured in the Government Office for £350. The furniture was covered with a policy in the same office for £l5O.
