Tho inquest! into tho deaths of William Ernest Cox and David Edward M’Mlllan, which occurred as a result of an explosion) in the Mllburn Lime and Cement Company’s quarry at Dunback, was continued at Palmerston South to.day, before Mr H. W. Bundle. S.M. The evidence showed thtl when a warning cry of “ Are ” was the men hastened for the jig-wheel stand, a solid concrete block nine feet ten inches on the surface by eleven feet high, which was 100 feet away from the face of tho quarry and sheltered behind it, the explosion taking place some minutes later. The two deceased and William MTntosh evidently concluded that the spot was dangerous and moved away, followed by a number of others who, however, retraced their steps. They selected the most dangerous route possible and the explosion caught them. MTntiosh, the only one of the three to survive, is now in hospital and,the inquest was adjourned sine die to Dunedin, to en. able his evidence to be taken.
