Mr J, R_ Hardle, town clerk resumed duty after his vacation yesterday.

Mr. J. A. Nash, M.P., left for Wellington by the Main Trunk express yesterday morning.

A well-known Christchurch lady, Mrs Wanklyn, the wife of Mr W. H. E. Wanklyn, for many years secretary of the Canterbury Jockey Club, died to-day. She was a daughter of the late Canon Gould, of Gisborne. The General Manager of Railways, Mr. R. W. McVilly, will not retire for 12 months, as it will require at least that time for the newly-appointed as-sistant-general manager to become fully acquainted with the work. The Honorable T. J. Bey, Minister for Justice in the New South Wales Cabinet, who has been spending a holiday in Suva, arrived in Auckland by the Niagara. He is accompanied by Mrs. Bey, and will take a short turning to Sydney.

The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr T. B. Williams), who has been ill for several months, tendered his resignation yes. terday morning. Mr J. P. Watt, borough valuer and returning officer, has also resigned on account of after many years’ municipal service.

The death occurred at his residence Ahiaruhe, on Sunday afternoon, of 'Mr H. Archer Bunny, aged 52 years. Deceased was a son of Mrs Bunny and the late Mr H. R, Bunny (for many years chairman of the Taratahi Carterton Road Board and Wairarapa South County Council), and a grandson of Mr Henry Bunny, M.H.R. for Wairarapa from 1865 till 1881. Tlie death occurrred recently of an old resident of Palmerston North, Mr. George Featherston ,who passed away at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Maddlson, of Pohangma. Deceased, who was 84 years of age, was predeceased by his wife 15 years ago at Bunnythorpe, where both resided for a considerable! period, deceased leaving for Patea some months later. The late Mr. Featherston leaves three sons and four daughters. The Interment took place at Pohangina yesterday.
