FIRES IN CANE FIELDS.
GROWERS GUARDING CROPS.

Sugar cane farmers in the Cairns district are guarding their crops owing to a number of fires which have destroyed hundreds of tons of cane. The outbreak is due to incendiarism, but the motive is not stated.
