MAIN HIGHWAYS.

PROPOSED DIVERTED ROUTE.

The proposal of some northern Main Trunk bodies to divert the main road under the Main Highways Board was placed before the Minister in charge (Hon. J. G. Coal'es), last evening, on behalf of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commeroo, together with a letter of protest from the Ohakuno Chamber of Commerce, The letter said the proposal was to divert the road from Ohakune and pass through a district, excluding all. Main. Trunk towns from Ohakune to Palmerston North. Mr J. A. Nash asked the Minister to inquire into it.

Mr Coates said Parliament* had wisely left the operation of the Act to the Main Highways Board, and although no definite routes had been decided, ho had a good idea how things wore going. Ho promised to make full inquiries.
