MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS. Mr. J. L. Stout presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Oscar Ronberg was lined 10/- f and Geoffrey Fahey 5/- each with costs 7/-, for riding their bicycles on the footpath. Riding Ughtless bicycles cost Alfred Charles Hutchings and William Ridley 10/- each, with costs VCharles Anderson was charged with a breach of prohibition order, and with being found on licensed premises. He was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment on each charge. John Kinley, for a breach of his order, was mulcted in the sum of'£l, with costs 7/-. J. Vining, ranger for the Fitzheribert Riding of the Kairanga County, proceeded against? G. Callis, farmer, for allowing, his cattle to stray on Whitmore-road. Defendant was fined id/- and costs 7/-. C. J. D. Skinner, attendance officer, proceeded against Walter Honey, who was charged with failing: to enrol his son's name on the school register, and also with failing to send his son to school. On the latter charge defendant was fined 5/-, with costs 7/-, the former charge being dismissed. 'MAINTENANCE. Reginald Armstrong was charge a with failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order made at Palmerston North for the support of his wife, Ethel Armstrong, and her child, and was now £4l in arrears under the warrant. Defendant was represented by Mr. Ongley, who stated that accused pleaded guilty. Accused was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour, warrant to be suspended so long as payments under order were kept up, and arrears paid off at 5/- per week. ECONOMY IN ACETYLENE, Robert 'Mudford(Mr.' Abraham)was charged with driving his car with insufficient lights. Alexander Thomas Hume gave evidence of having left his home at u couple of minutes to six on his motorcycle, and encountered the motor-cai which he took to be an animal in the dark. A collision occurred, and defendant sustained injuries. Defendant deposed to having left Kauwhata a little after four o'clock. He saw Hume when 500yds. away. Defendant had no lights then. The time was about sunset. Mr. Stout remarked that it musi have' been dusk at the time of the collision, and defendant, having got lamps, neglected to light up. A fine of £2, with costs 9/-, was imposert. GUILTY OF THEFT. John Morgan (Mr. Ongley) was charged that between September 18 and 22, at Mangaori, he did steal from the dwelling of Schembrl Marcei, situated at Mangaori, £l4 in money, a purse valued at 4/-, an American dollar, one dime piece and 50 centimes piece, the property of the said Schembri Marcel. Complainant, a labourer, stated that on the day of the theft, he lert his hut at Mangaore in the morning. Returning at 12 noon on the 22nd, he found a box open with the money missing. He knew accused, who lived opposite him. Constable 'McGregor deposed to having interviewed accused as result of information received, and accused admitted the theft. Cross-examined, witness stated that accused had made arrangements for Marcel to be repaid by the Public Works Department. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge of theft, and was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence.
