BRILLIANT “SOCCER.”
WATERSIDERS BEAT WAIRARAPA FIVE GOALS TO TWO, [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Wairarapa Representative soccer team met the Watersiders at the Basin Reserve, and gave a splendid exhibition in the first spell, Burton, Stacey, and Collinson doing particularly good work in the front rank, and Burnside at centre half. Harris was weak at left back. His clearances were faulty, making trouble for his side. Collinson scored for Wairarapa, beating Portcous with a great shot. Anton equalised ten minutes later, but Collinson and Stacoy again gained the lead for Wairarapa by hustling Porteous, and the ball went just under the bar. Brown equalised again on half-time, in a brilliant dash from the right wing. Early in the second half Wairarapa tired and the Watersiders added three mote goals, through Anton, -whose head work was excellent. Knowles performed well in goal, and brought off two wonderful saves in the closing stages. The final score was—Watcrsiders 5, Wairarapa 2.
