DAIRY CONTROL BILL.
FINANCIAL ASPECT. MR GROUNDS CONSULTS THE BANKERS. TOOLEY STREET AMALGAMATING [Per Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Last Night. In a statement to the Press, Mr W. Grounds, chairman o.f the Dairy Council, says: "Opponents of the Dairy Produce Control Bill have been endeavouring: to discredit the assurances L have given at recent conferences regarding: ilnance. At all meetings I made it clear that the last word could not be said until the Board was set up with power to act on behalf of the industry. I have submitted to Mr Bucklcton, who was chairman of the Associated Banks when tho first conversations took place, a. verbatim report of my remarks upon finance at Christchurch. These were substantially the same as those made at other centres. He authorises me to say that every word is fully justified by our conversations. I have now seen Mr Cox, the present chairman of the Associated Banks, and have his authority for saying- that if we are going to work with Tooley Street houses, there should be no difficulty about linancc. We have made it clear throughout that wo intend to work in conjunction with all who. are efficiently serving the industry. Following a discussion with Sir Thomas Clements recently, we now have a cable from him in England, that the following .Tooley Street firms—Lo.nsdalcs, Octzes, Weddel, Nathan, Anglo, Lane, Wrightson, Lovell, Mills, Davidson, Bowsou, and Clements —have joined together with the object of setting up an effective organisation to co-operate on all matters of common interest applying to the welfare of the New Zealand dairy industry."
