Last week Mr R. Southcy, oi' Kiwltoa, disposed of a very line line of grade Jersey heifers for £ls 15/ each. For this time of the yoar tho price realised is very good. It was decided by the Oroua County Council yesterday to purchase a scarifier to deal with roads in the country, and endeavour to, bring them into a better state of repair. When the residents of The Hill decided to come into the Borough, many of them never anticipated that the drainage question was going to involve them in any heavy expenditure, but from the statements of those living in this locality, it appears that in some cases the burden is quite beyond their means. In one case there is just a little over a chain of drainage to lay, and the cost will be approaching £45. In another case the charge will amount to over £IOO. To enjoy the privilego of Doing under tho Borough's jurisdiction appears to be a costly affair, and some are questioning whether the word "privilege" is not a misnomer.
