The gas manager's report showed that during the month 40 tons of coal were carbonised, yielding 528,006 cubic feet of gas, the gas "used by .consumer's being 43G.300 cubic feet, and gas unaccounted for equalling 7.7 per cent. The workings for the month showed a credit of £SB. The road foreman reported that several streets needed repairing, and he advised the Council to order more metal. Cr. Adams said it should be an instruction to the foreman that when the streets were broken up for drainage pu\>oses the spoil should be properly put in and made solid.

Cr. Ross said he believed in the Belmont metal. It gave the foundation for a road, and they had to build up their roads with the object of having asphalt roads in the future. The road foreman's report was adopted, and it was decided to obtain 500 tons of metal for streets.

The Mayor, Crs. Bryant and Smith were appointed to represent the Council on the Fire Board. An application was received from four churches in Foxt'on asking that various traps, etc., made necessary by the by-laws should be cut out, as they were not necessary. Cr. Walker, speaking in favour, said it was ridiculous for' each building to have to bury about' £lO worth of traps, etc., which were never used. The matter was held over, and a report is to be obtained from the health officer.

The health officer reported that there were only five infectious diseases in the Borough during the past three months, also that the progress of connecting up properties was not progressing rapidly enough. Cr. Ross said that something should be done to expedite matters as at the present rate it would take five years to connect up the whole of the Borough. The health inspector's report was adopted and applications- are to be called for a plumber. A vote of thanks, on behalf of the citizens, was passed to the Returned Soldiers, bandsmen, and others who helped to make Anzac Day proceedings such a success.

The Beautifying Society wrote asking that certain overhanging hedges in the Borough be cut back to the boundaries, and this was agreed to. owners to be given notice to cut hedges at once. It was decided to write to owners of properties in Main Street who have leaking verandahs, asking them to have same remedied. The Mayor moved that the beautifying society be applied to for a grant of £250 to erect a pavilion on Easton Park.—Carried. .

The Council endorsed the motion by the Stratford Borough Council to the Minister of Eternal Affairs re speeds of motor cars endeavouring to break records. Petitions were received from the residents of Park Street to asphalt the footpath the whole length of Park Street. —It was decided to refer the matter of footpaths to the Public works committee to bring down a report at the next meeting of the Council.

It was decided to have trucks of metal obtained by the Council weighed and measured. It was also decider? fhat gas consumers owing two months' gas accounts would be ciit off from the sup-, ply. Cr. McMurray gave notices of rao tion:—(a) That the by-laws relating to water be revised, (b) That the. offer of the Horowheniin Hydro-Elec-tric Power Board of 60 lamps be accepted, and that' the previous motions, cutting these down to 45 be rescinded.
