BOROUGH REPORTS.

STREETS MAINTENANCE. The Borough Engineer's (Mr J. R Hughos) report on the work don c timing the past month was" presented at Monday night's meeting of the Coun. cil. It stated, inter alia: — "Since the completion of th c last kerbing and channelling contract, the work of reforming thc footpaths with pit metal and asphalt where necessary to suit the new kerb level has been carried out in Snelson, George and Duke streets; tarring and sanding operations have been carried out to the footpaths in Worcester, Pitt, Rangitikei Snelson streets and Coleman Place*. The- water.tables have been cleaned in Heretaunga, Russell, and a portion of Terrace, Fitzherbert and College streets. The small drain on the cast sid c of College street from Worcester street to Botanical road ha s also been cleaned. The water-tables at the intersection of Fitzherbert street and Park road have been connected to the storm water sewer in Park road, and similar woTk has been carried out in Fitzherbert street at College street. The work of scarifying and re.sur. facing with metal of the roadway in Featherston street has been completed to. Russell street. That portion of Featherston street from Russell street to Albert street is now in hand. The tarring of the centre portion of the roadway from Rangitikei street to Carroll street has been completed. Main street from the Post Office to Duke street has been treated with the Best coat of tar and sand. street for a distance of approximately fourteen chains between Fitzherbert and Linton streets has been raised, and six chains of these pipes have been rciaid in Mcerangri street. —Adopted. DESTRUCTOR, "The whole of the destructor plant, with the exception of the electric gen. orator has arrived and the contractors - representative from England has now commenced the work of erec. lion," Announced the Borough Engineer at Monday night's meeting/of the Council. 'The contractors for the erection of the building have made a good start, the whole of the concrete foundations having been placed in position and a start, made with the erection of the brick walls." It was stated later that the destructor would be completed in about five months. TOWN PLANNING. The works and town planning committee reported that th e engineer's action in refusing to grant Air A. Guy a permit to remove the tin shed from its present position on part sec. tion 21S, Rangitikei street, to another part of the said section, be endorsed; that the engineer's plan showing the line of easement required in connec. tion with the laying of the electric mains on private property opposite the cemetery be approved; that the following subdivisions be approved: (a) section 853, Ferguson street.
