A few useful hacks are engaged in the Laghmor Plate, run at the Ashburton meeting. Finor a is a good beginner and has already showed winning form. The acceptances received for the Wanganui Steeplechase and the Century Hurdles are not up to the usual standard, but nevertheless, those engaged should provide good contests on Thursday. Rouen ran two real good races at the Egmont meeting, and may be claiming the judge's attention again shortly.

It is reported that Quaestor slipped a muscle during the preliminary of a race at Egmont, which, if correat. will keep him off the tracks for a time.

Penury Rose, and Sir Wai should show improved form by the time the Ellerslie meeting comes round.

Polthogue has been a long time coming right. It was pleasing to see the old fellow victorious at Hawera last week, and if he goes on the right way, more money should come his way before the season closes.

Those engaged in the Hack Steeplechase the first day at the Wanganui meeting are a moderate lot. Ringi showed his ability to jump last season and if about right he will put up a fair showing in Thursday's race.

Quest is not engaged at Ellerslie, and after competing at Wanganui, he will be seen out at Otaki, where the scale of weights will suit him.

After being off the scene for some months. Demos claims an engagement in the Borough Handicap at the Wanganui meeting.

A Christchurch writer says: The steeplechaser Red Cent, by All RedMint Queen, arrived from Hawke's Bay at the end of last week and is now a member of T. H. Gillett's team at Riccarton. Last winter Red Cent won the Petanc Hack Steeplechase at Napier Park, and a week later captured the Hawke's Bay Steeplecfliase. He was unplaced twice at Trentham. Coming to Riccarton, he was unplaced in the Grand National Steeplechase, and on the last day of the meeting he finished third to Omahu and Oakleigh in the Lincoln Steeplechase. He has been nominated for Ihe cross-country events at the Dunedin meeting next month.

Among the ''pressing" questions of the hour, where does your suit stand? Why not have it rejuvenated in the Hoff-man steam press at Collinson and Cunninghame'a. Sterilised, pressed and rejuvenated for 5/. Trousers for 2/.*
