LATEST BURGLARY.
FURTHER PARTICULARS. JOB CLEVERLY DONE. A " Times" reporter visited the strong-room of Messrs. Manson and Barr, Ltd., in Rangitikci Street, yesterday, and gleaned further particulars of the robbery committed there on Saturday night or Sunday morning, as reported in our issue of yesterday. Investigations conducted on Sunday evening by Detective-Sergeant Quirke and Detective Holmes revealed the fact that an entrance had apparently been effected by means of the front door of the hardware department, it showing signs of having been forced. Gelignite, as in the recent attempted robbery at Longburn station, was used on the lock of the strongroom door, the inside of which was shattered, though the outside remained intact. A similar method was used in the case of a safe inside the strongroom, the force of the explosion being directed inwards, as before. Of the dash in the safe, the paper money and copper were left untouched, but the remainder proved a very profitable haul. The work was most evidently done by expert hands. The burglary was discovered by a member of the staff on Sunday evening, and the police were immediately, informed.
